Team Air Website:  Please visit our website weekly for dates of tests and quizzes. The spelling lists for the weeks are under the spelling tab.  Each core subject also has a tab, which includes links for websites to practice the fifth grade curriculum.
Weekly Email:  Each week you will receive an email from all of us.  It will have important dates and upcoming events. The email address we will use is the one you provided for Infinite Campus. If you have a question or comment for a specific teacher about the email, please contact her directly because the mass email will come from one teacher.
Homework:  We believe that homework helps a child learn responsibility and reinforce what they are learning.  Your child will be receiving about 50 minutes of homework each night.  If your child does not have his/her homework on the assigned day, he/she will receive a strike. If a student continues to not have homework, an alternate plan will be provided, and you will be contacted.  Parents are encouraged to look at their child’s planner to see what is for homework but not expected to sign it.  Homework consists of: work assigned by teachers, studying spelling words, practicing their instrument, and reading.

Spelling:  Spelling will be completed with your child’s homeroom teacher during morning work time from 7:30-7:45.  Students will work through a packet that will help them learn the spelling and meaning of each of the words. If the pages are not completed during morning work time, they are homework. The completed packets will be due on Tuesday morning.  Spelling Tests will take place on Tuesday during Homeroom Day.  The new spelling list will be glued into planners on Wednesday. You can find a list of all spelling words on the Team Air Website. The spelling grade consists of a weekly test worth 18 points and the weekly four page practice packet with 4 points.

Schedules: Each child has a team schedule that is the same each day.  The only exception is during 4th and 5th period.  At this time, the students are assigned a rotation group and travel to a particular location (lunch, recess, Skills Block, or Music).   Your child’s schedule is glued/stapled inside of their assignment notebook or has been placed in their binder.

Homeroom Day:  Homeroom day is on Tuesdays each week.  During that time, students will participate in ART, Social Studies, Character Connection Class, Spelling Tests, and academic lab, which is used for students to have their spelling tests and make up any tests or assignments.  This is a day for all of us to build community in our classrooms.

Friday Folders: Each Friday, your child will bring home a Friday folder.  It will have any important papers from the office, your child’s Weekly Reflection, and any graded work.  Please look through it and return it with the signed Weekly Reflection by Monday.  Students will turn the bottom half of the reflection in for the Ticket Tuesday drawing.
Weekly Reflection:  Each Friday, students will fill out a Weekly Reflection sheet.  The teacher will write down the Reminder Marks for the week, and the students will reflect on their behavior and goals.  This will be in the Friday folder.  It needs to be signed and returned on Monday. If it is not returned by Tuesday, the student will receive a Reminder Mark.  If it is not returned the following day, a student will receive lunch detention.
Classroom Behavior Program: Follow ROARS
Respectful - Wait your turn to speak.
Open-Minded- Accept other people’s differences and ideas.
Achieving- Start work immediately.  Work during work time.
Responsible- Follow directions the first time given
Safe- Practice KHFOOTY (Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.)
-Walk in classroom and hallways
Consequences:
1) Rethink- Student takes time to think about their behavior and what they should be doing by putting their head down.  When they are ready to join the class, they put their thumb up and teacher will ask them to join.
2) Reminder Mark- Mark is written on the clipboard and recorded on Weekly Reflection.

Think Sheet:  If a student is not following classroom expectations and has received more than 3 Reminder Marks for behavior, the student will receive a “Think Sheet” and fill it out.  The “Think Sheet” will be sent home and should be signed by the student and parent.  For District policy please see Student Handbook pages 4 and 39-46.
Celebrating Positive Behavior:
Class Bows- As a class, students may work together to earn bows that will be displayed on their classroom kites.  Each bow represents an extra minute of free time during the team Celebration.

Individual Goals- Students are encouraged to meet their weekly goals.  If their goal is reached, they add a sticker to the chart.  As students earn five stickers, they receive a reward.
Dragon Deeds:  These are given to students who show exemplary R.O.A.R.S. (Respect, Open-Mindedness, Achievement, Responsibility, and Safe) behavior.  The deed will be put in a school-wide raffle.

Ticket Tuesday:  Students will return the bottom half of their signed Weekly Reflection.  This is their ticket.  Each Tuesday, tickets will be drawn for a small prize.

Calling Home:  Students will not be allowed to call home for homework, lunches, or instruments.
Dress Code:  Students are not allowed to wear hats or hoods and need tennis shoes for PE. Students need to be in their tennis shoes before 1st period.   For further information, please see Student Handbook page 6.

Notes about going home at the end of the day:  You must fill out a bus request form 24 hours in advance if your child will be riding a different bus home with a friend, or if they are getting off at a different location with a friend.  You can get these forms in the office or on the district website. Otherwise, it is your child’s responsibility to know how they are getting home each day. If there is a change that needs to happen during the school day, PLEASE DO NOT EMAIL THE TEACHER. We might not check the email before the end of the day. Instead, email or call the office and they will relay the message to us.

Birthdays:  Students will be recognized on birthdays on the mor ning announcements and at lunch. For the safety of all our students, birthday treats are not allowed to be brought in from home or store.  Chartwell’s will provide options for birthday treats that your child could share during their lunch shift.  You can contact Sue Blumm for more information.
Candy and Gum:  Candy will be given out occasionally by teachers throughout the school year to celebrate successes.  However, there is no gum allowed during the school day.
Snacks/Water Bottles:  We will not be having snacks throughout the school year.  Water bottles are encouraged to bring for the classroom and should be filled prior to coming to school.  Students may not have flavored or colored water.
Bringing in lunch:  If you want to deliver lunch to your child, it needs to be done at your child’s lunch time in the office.
Ways to Contact Us: If you need to contact any of us, you may email or leave a voicemail.  If you need immediate response, please call the office (314) 983-5540.
We are looking forward to a fun, successful school year!  Please let us know if you have any questions.  Thank you.
